Surviving day #1 in Lisbon

“KEEP THESE THINGS IN MIND AND THE CITY WILL BE YOUR FRIEND!”

Get a public transport ticket.

When arriving at the airport, go to the post office (“Correios“), ask for a “Sete Colinas” [set’coleenash] card, load it up with 5 euros, later you can reload. When arriving via train or bus, you can do this at the vending machines. The cards are valid for metro, busses and tramways. When taking buses and trams, always enter at the front and validate your ticket at the sensors. When reload, make sure to choose “Zapping”.

Keep an eye on your things.

Especially when you’re in crowed surroun-
dings, make sure your wallet is at a safe place. Your rear trouser pocket is not a safe place.

Have a snack.

Never forget to eat/drink. It’s crucial. Enter the first pastry shop, order a coffee and some pastry.

Get lost in the city and start to enjoy.

Don’t use maps. They create more confusion than they help. Use the time you’d waste on folding them
together on keeping your eyes open for the beauty of this wonderful city.
